In the early days, people used a variety of cranes and conveyors to complete loading and unloading work. With the increase of loading and unloading work, the loading and unloading machinery which can take things by itself gradually appeared. In the early 19th century, there were single bucket loaders. In the middle of the 19th century, trackless handling machines with caterpillar running devices appeared. In the 1920s came the car dumper and the crab rake loader. After the Second World War, the container transport has been developed, the container carrying bridge and the container gantry crane have appeared successively. Lifting vehicles are playing an increasingly important role in handling work. Nevertheless, cranes or conveyors are still used to complete the loading and unloading work in some areas where the loading and unloading work is not heavy. At this point, it is difficult to distinguish the loading and unloading machinery from the cranes, conveyors and handling vehicles.
Loading and unloading machinery according to the loading and unloading of different materials can be divided into bulk material loading and unloading machinery and into goods loading and unloading machinery.
