Loading and unloading machinery refers to machinery used for loading, unloading and handling vehicles. The main handling machinery used at railway stations varies with the type of cargo. To load and unload heavy goods, gantry cranes, bridge cranes, truck cranes, tyre cranes, crawler cranes, rail cranes, fixed cranes and forklifts are adopted. The main type used in railway freight yard and railway container yard is double beam double cantilever gantry crane. Internal combustion forklifts and battery forklifts, as well as supporting pallets and other containeriser are used for loading, unloading and handling of pieces of goods. Internal combustion tractors and trailers are used for baggage and parcels handling. Loading and unloading bulk cargo mainly adopts coal unloader, sand loader and belt conveyor to cooperate with the operation, followed by single bucket loader and crane to cooperate with the grab operation, and adopts the bottom door dump vehicle to cooperate with the overhead line (trestle) or belt conveyor operation, the cargo yard with especially large volume of bulk cargo unloading adopts the dumper to unload the truck. The driving mode of loading and unloading machinery is mainly electric drive, followed by thermal drive. Transmission mode is mainly mechanical transmission, some are hydraulic transmission.
